  • FREELANCE WRITING, EDITING, PROJECT MANAGEMENT & COMMUNICATIONS CONSULTING

With more than 20 years of work experience, my background in journalism makes me an effective storyteller in the marketing world. My specialty is finding the juice in any story and simplifying complex subjects into engaging, digestible content. Byline or not, you can hire me to write blog posts, case studies, executive and company profiles, articles, and e-books. Don’t see your project mentioned here? Try me!

I edit everything from blog posts to newsletters to books, as well as manage work and creative projects that need, well, um, managing. Note: I edit for voice and engagement, not necessarily grammar or to adhere to a specific style. That said, I typically edit using AP style.

  • You have a story and want to write it.

To bring it alive on the page.

Except you don't have time or the bandwidth to take it on yourself.

But it's ready to come out.

    That's where I come in.

WRITE YOUR STORY WITH LIZ GOLD is a one-on-one, three-month collaborative experience in which we craft your story together. At the end of this process, you will have a ebook with your completed, edited, story. Whether it's a single story or up to three shorter stories, it is up to you and how you want to use your time.

    Here's how it works:

    Month 1

    Week 1

Discovery Questionnaire - Upon signing up, you will receive a questionnaire that will guide our process and inform our call and interviews.

You will fill this out and return to me at least 72 hours before our first Zoom meeting.

    Week 2

Kick-off call (60 minutes, via Zoom) – Here we go over your questionnaire and address the scope of the book. We’ll talk about the message of your story, your vision, and any questions or concerns you might have.

     Week 3

Interview 1 (90 minutes, via Phone) – I’ll ask you questions/provide prompts to get you talking and sharing.

     Week 4

Interview 2 (90 minutes, via Phone) – A follow-up to the first interview, this call will fill in details and any gaps in what we discussed.

Please note, whatever we cover in the questionnaire, kick-off call, and interviews will be used as content for the final product. What we discuss in those calls is up to you, whether that be one long story or to up to three short stories.

     Month 2

     Draft 1

This is when I am deep in process, writing your first draft. This material will synthesize what we have previously discussed and I will create a document for you to read and provide feedback. During this time, I will send you follow-up questions via email for clarity, as needed.

    Month 3

     Week 1

You receive the first draft! Now, it's your time to read it, absorb it, and share your feedback.

During these two weeks, we will be going back and forth to address all edits and finalize the ebook. Here is where you will need to be especially available as your edits will be due within 7 days of you receiving the draft from me. I ask during this time you give this project your prioritized attention. We will use either Google Docs or Microsoft Word so you can easily track edits and send me comments.

     Draft 2

     Week 2

     Draft 3

     Weeks 3-4

Final Version/Celebrate - By now the final version is done and you have published your own ebook to share! WOO HOO! You will receive both an editable Microsoft Word file and PDF text version of your story.

    Then what?

Once the ebook has been finalized, you own this content. For the next steps, you can choose your own adventure. Some people just want their stories written down so they can share them with friends and family. Others want to invest in professional design to self-publish as a digital download online. Yet others may want to pitch it to traditional book publishers or publications (just remember, editors and publishers almost always edit, so it is likely if they accept it, they will change it.)

It's truly up to you what you choose to do!

    Investment

This is a three-month process that will give you a written version of your story - or up to three short stories - in an ebook format. This project requires commitment and dedication to being available and responsive during the process, as well as a willingness to take constructive feedback.
